A Star Is Born Now On Digital and Blu-ray

Bradley Cooper’s feature directorial debut, A Star Is Born, knocks it out of the park thanks to a stellar performance from Lady Gaga.  Bring it home today! Following a performance, country rock star Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) hits up whatever establishment he can find for alcohol.  It just so happens that he lands up one bar’s drag performance night.  A former employee, Ally (Lady Gaga) just happens to grace the stage that night.  When Jackson…

Presidents’ Day: Movies To Revisit

Today is Presidents’ Day and there is no better way than to celebrate some of our favorite presidents to have graced the big screen in film. There’s a few films that stand out to me and while some of these haven’t been reviewed on Solzy at the Movies, the day is coming! Dave (1993) I saw this film last year during a 25th anniversary screening in 35mm at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago. …

2019 Writers Guild Awards Winners: The Writers Have Spoken

The Writers Guild Awards took place this evening in NY and LA with big wins going to Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Eighth Grade. The Writers differs from that of the Academy in that they have stricter rules than the Oscars.  Put it this way:  A screenplay could sweep the boards with critical acclaim and miss out on a Writers Guild nomination.  In a perfect world, Bo Burnham would have a a chance to repeat…

Disney’s Frozen 2 Teaser Trailer Shows Little

Disney released the Frozen 2 teaser trailer this morning and offers a few glimpses at what could happen in the sequel to the 2013 animated blockbuster. Oscars 2019: Four Categories Get The Boot

Four categories are among those to have gotten the boot from the 91st Oscars ceremony according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter. Among these four categories are editing, cinematography, live-action, short, and makeup/hairstyling.  This is completely unacceptable to cinephiles such as myself.  It’s completely unfair to the nominees, winners, and those people who will be inspired by just one speech to enter the industry. I did a series of interviews with a few of…

2019 Oscars Nominations: The Snubs

Among the early snubs for this year’s Oscars nominations are La La Land composer Justin Hurwitz.  This nomination comes as First Man is now available to bring home on home media. Also missing from Best Original Score is Marco Beltrami for his score in A Quiet Place.  Given the lack of sound in the film, the score is among the most important aspects. With regards to Best Editing, Tom Cross misses out on a nomination…
