The Solzy Awards for Short Films in 2023

The Solzy Awards

The strikes are over and awards season is getting under way so it is time to present the Solzy Awards for Short Films in 2023.

I decided to go ahead and announce the awards today rather than wait closer to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Unfortunately, I did not watch as many short films as I would have liked to watch this past year. I try and cover short films playing film festivals. Because of timing and such, it is not always the case.

Following October 7, I’m finding myself lucky if my headspace allows me to watch much of anything, let alone focus on what I’m watching. Interestingly enough, two of the below short films are among the films that I have watched since early October. A short film, more so than a feature, is almost certain to keep my attention, especially with the shorter run times. In any event, the following short films and runner-ups are among the shorts that truly stood out to me as I present the Solzy Awards for Short Films in 2023.

Best Live-Action Short: Heritage Day

Runner-Up: Proof of Concept

Best Animated Short: Once Upon a Studio

Best Documentary Short (TIE): Under G-d, Now and Then: The Last Beatles Song

Runner-Up: Deciding Vote

The rest of the The Solzy Awards for film will be announced in December.
