Ahsoka: Part 8 – The Jedi, The Witch, and The Warlord

Ahsoka answers some questions in the season finale but ends on a cliffhanger, which sets up another season or Dave Filoni’s movie. It more or less had to end this way. Obviously, there are questions that I get into below the photo. However, Dave Filoni left some room in there for some very happy surprises for Star Wars Rebels fans. Maybe, maybe not. I guess it depends on having a certain point of view as…

Ahsoka: Part 7 – Dreams and Madness

Ahsoka treks closer towards the end of the season with its penultimate episode showing that Dave Filoni knows what he is doing. Last week saw Ezra Bridger’s (Eman Esfandi) long overdue reunion with Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo). This week more or less started where last week left off. But first, General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) must answer on Coruscant for her use of New Republic resources. Hera and the Senate have not seen…

The Secret Art of Human Flight – Tribeca 2023

A grieving children’s book author turns to the dark web and orders a self-help book in The Secret Art of Human Flight. The film was one of two Vanishing Angle productions to premiere at Tribeca. Days after watching the film,…

SXSW 2021: See You Then

See You Then is the next cinematic game-changer in terms of transgender representation both on screen and behind the camera. Imagine the Before trilogy of films but with a transgender lead in one of those roles. That’s what you’re getting in the story of this film. It’s a two-hander of a story. In hindsight, screenwriters Mari Walker and Kristen Uno would have probably set this film during the daytime. At least, that’s my understanding from…

Thunder Road: An Indie Gem

Thunder Road comes with a nice blend of tragedy and comedy with a marvelous performance from multi-hyphenate Jim Cummings. The film starts out as Texas police officer Jim Arnaud (Jim Cummings) attends the funeral for his mother, Brenda.  I’ll discuss the scene in-depth later but it seemingly sets the tone for what we’re about to see over the next 90 minutes.  Despite losing control of his emotions during the funeral, Jim–ignoring his superior–heads back to…
