Supernova: The Music Festival Massacre Is Essential Viewing

Supernova: The Music Festival Massacre is an essential documentary bearing witness to the barbaric attacks of October 7, 2023. The film–which previously aired on KAN in Israel–is currently playing the film festival circuit, including the Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema, and appears to be available through Vimeo on Demand. This film, like #NOVA, is not an easy watch but it is still important to bear witness. I had to press pause no less than three…

James Bond 007: Antisemites To Boycott Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is rumored to be the next James Bond so it comes as no surprise that antisemites are threatening to boycott. Lest anyone think that I have been silent, I have been using my Buttondown newsletter to speak out against antisemitism. There is no space for Jew-hatred. It is an awful virus that needs to be removed from this planet. But until we finally rid the world of such hate, I’m going to keep…

ADL Findings On Antisemitic Views Are Deeply Concerning

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) released a new survey, which unfortunately displays an increase in extreme antisemitic views. The complete survey findings–conducted by the ADL Center for Antisemitism Research during January 5-18–are a cause for concern, especially with Gen-Z and Millennials. Their representative sample is 4,143 adults with a 1.5% margin of error. There is a bigger representation of the 18-26 demographic. Regardless of the sample size, the findings can be particularly depressing with the amount…

Dr. Clarence B. Jones Fights Antisemitism in Super Bowl LVIII Ad

Dr. Clarence B. Jones is featured in a Foundation to Combat Antisemitism ad that aired during Super Bowl LVIII on CBS. The ad is probably the most important ad airing during Super Bowl LVIII. Other people might be obsessing over Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce but that should be the least of priorities. Meanwhile, another ad, #StandUpToJewishHate: Tony, was launched last year. It aired during the pregame show. Robert Kraft’s Foundation to Combat Antisemitism made…

SNL: Sketch About Campus Response to Jew-Hatred Is Not Funny

SNL started the Adam Driver / Olivia Rodrigo episode with a terribly offensive sketch about the campus response to Jew-hatred. I haven’t chimed in earlier because writing about the unfortunate rise in Jew-hatred during the past two months has been emotionally exhausting. Where Pete Davidson said something in the first SNL following the attacks, this past Saturday’s episode took a turn into the offensive territory. It isn’t that comedy is subjective but there are lines…

WGA Called Out By Screen Writers Guild of Israel

The Screen Writers Guild of Israel joined Jewish television and film writers in calling out Writers Guild of America (WGA). Deadline reported on Saturday evening that the WGA didn’t release a statement because they couldn’t find consensus. I’m sorry but how does guild leadership not find consensus in condemning a barbaric act of terror by Hamas. Is this really how they feel about Jewish lives at a time when antisemitism is skyrocketing across the globe?!?…

WGA Needs To Release a Statement About the Hamas Attack on Israel

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been criticized in an open letter and during Variety‘s Antisemitism Summit for their silence. The fact that many WGA members have taken to penning an open letter is very telling. Here’s an excerpt of the open letter: When it comes to taking a stand, the Writers Guild of America has always led by example. When employers sought to exploit our work, the Guild bravely spoke up. When the…

Defamation – Antisemitism: The Movie

Yoav Shamir’s film, Defamation, first came out in 2009 but one can only wonder what the documentary would look like today. It’s been really hard watching much of anything over the last week. All I can do is really keep watching the news, refresh for updates, and think about my family and friends living in Israel. While there are flare-ups every few years, this time is different. Hamas just invaded Israel and murdered over a…

Reed Hastings Discusses Glass Onion, Dave Chapelle, and More

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings discussed Glass Onion, Dave Chappelle, and more during an appearance at the New York Times DealBook conference. On the Glass Onion box office, Hastings said the following (via Deadline): “It’s a promotional tactic for the streaming service. We are not trying to build a theatrical business.” The CEO also admitted to Netflix leaving money on the table. Talk to anyone and they’ll tell that this film would have made north of…

The Conspiracy: An Animated Film About Antisemitism – DOC NYC 2022

The world premiere of The Conspiracy at DOC NYC could not be more timely with antisemitism at its highest levels in several years. To say that this film is not enjoyable or entertaining would not be an understatement. However, it is essential that as many people watch this film–now more than ever. I’m not sure how many other DOC NYC films I’m getting to because of my schedule this month but I made sure that…
