As The Munsters reboot, Where’s The Originality Left In Hollywood?

Deadline reported that Jill Kargman and Seth Meyers were rebooting The Munsters for NBC.  This begs the question: do the networks even want original content anymore? There have been more and more reboots placed into development over the years to the point that enough is enough.  This comes on the heels of NBC’s announcement that they were looking to reboot Miami Vice.  There’s a long list of reboots that premiered on television over the past…

Roseanne reboot seeks “Gender-Creative” Child despite Transphobic History

The reboot of Roseanne is reportedly seeking a gender-creative child despite series star Roseanne’s own personal transphobic history. Personally, I don’t think Roseanne Barr has changed her ways since earlier this year when she said that a transgender male should not be allowed to wrestle with the guys as she called testosterone a steroid.  She doesn’t understand what transgender people are going through nor does she want to. The announcement, which was reported by Fox…

Sharknado 5: Global Swarming features Many Cameos

SyFy’s newest installment, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, featured a ton of celebrities making cameo appearances as Sharknadoes formed across the globe. The newest film, naturally, ends on a cliffhanger as older Gil (Dolph Lundgren) comes back from to future to help his dad, Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering).  Gil got pulled into the Sharknado earlier and they chase after him throughout the globe. Coming into the final scene, it would have appeared that the series was…

TCA: GLAAD – Only 11 Transgender Characters on Television Series

According to today’s GLAAD panel at the TCA summer meetings, there are only 11 transgender characters on broadcast, cable, and streaming television series.  These numbers are as of today: August 4, 2017. These are numbers that need to improve because 11 is a small number when you factor in the 278 gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender characters (71 on broadcast, 142 on cable, 65 on streaming).  Of the 83 bisexual characters, there are 64 women…

No More Points for @Midnight on Comedy Central

The late night game show, @midnight with Chris Hardwick, will appear tonight for the last time.  After 600 episodes, the comedian made the decision to bid adieu. This was a series that was made for a site like Twitter with all the hashtag games.  It also introduced us to many comedians we never heard of or gave us an opportunity to see familiar comedians on the panel. Hardwick would spend the half hour on the…

TBS unveils 2017 Fall Slate, renews Angie Tribeca for Fourth Season

In addition to unveiling their fall slate, TBS has renewed police comedy Angie Tribeca for a fourth season. The news comes during the Television Critics Association bi-annual meeting.  Not only is the series, starring Rashida Jones, renewed but the fourth season will welcome two-time Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale.  Is this an effort to attract some interest from the Emmy Awards voters?  Maybe. In getting renewed, Angie Tribeca becomes the first of the recent TBS comedies…

Late Night shows tackle Transgender Military Ban

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah invited two transgender military veterans, Sergeant Major (Ret.) Jennifer Marie Young and Joey Whimple, to discuss Donald Trump’s transgender military ban while The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon featured transgender comedian Patti Harrison during Fallon’s monologue. It was a really wise decision by The Daily Show to bring in two military veterans. It’s been a trying day for many of us in the transgender community–myself included as I got…

Doctor Who alumnus John Barrowman pulls Transphobic Stunt at Comic Con

Openly gay actor John Barrowman pulled off a transphobic stunt yesterday while addressing the casting of Jodie Whittaker in as the 13th Time Lord in the BBC series, Doctor Who. Here’s a tweet that displays what Barrowman did: #SDCC2017 A-hole of Thursday John (I’m Gay so I can insult trans) Barrowman : “I totally blinged myself out! Hey HBO, Confederate is an awful idea…

When HBO announced that the Game of Thrones creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, would be producing Confederate as their next project, I really didn’t think of the consequences at the time.  It’s a bad idea. I liken it to the Amazon series, The Man in the High Castle.  Amazon has already renewed it for a third season.  The series, of course, being based on the book of the same name by writer Phillip K.…
