Obi-Wan Kenobi: The Order 66 Jedi Massacre

When the Order 66 flashback was shown at the start of Obi-Wan Kenobi, people started discussing the recent school shooting in Texas.

If you have not watched the first two episodes, this conversation is on the news and social media. My apologies if this is a spoiler but I have to say something.

In hindsight, maybe I should have thought about writing something in my review but school shootings are happening too frequently in the country. They should not be so normalized in our society. Disney should have put a warning on from the get-go. Instead, it wasn’t until after people started discussing the Jedi Temple Massacre in the days that followed the Uvalde, Texas school shooting. It’s on me for not giving any thought to it in my review because of the Star Wars nostalgia winning me over. Order 66 is one of the darkest times in history but it looks to be playing play a role in Reva’s backstory in the limited series.

We cannot ignore the conversation that needs to happen in America. Why is it so easy for people to buy an AR-15 in this country? If you’re not in the military, you do not need a military grade weapon in your possession. Meanwhile, the NRA did the most tone-deaf thing they could and went forward with their conversation. What in the ever-loving fuck were they thinking?!? Republicans talk all the time about being pro-life but they are not pro-life. They are just pro-forced birth. If they were pro-life, they would finally start having a conversation about guns. Their heads are so far up the NRA’s ass that they cannot even be sensible about it.  This is not one of those things where you meet Democrats halfway. No, this is one of those things where you have to show a fucking spine.

We say the same thing after every school shooting. The same thing after every mass shooting. How many times do we need to have the same conversation?!? Enough is fucking enough! The time for action is now. We cannot afford to push off the conversation until after the next mass shooting. Thoughts and prayers are meaningless if you cannot find a fucking solution to gun violence.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming on Disney+. New episodes will premiere on Wednesdays through June 22.
