Fantastic Beasts: J.K. Rowling Amplifies Transphobia

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Once again, J.K. Rowling manages to shoot herself in the foot by amplifying transphobia ahead of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

You would think that Warner Bros. would follow Focus Features and keep Rowling on a short leash. After all, that’s what Focus did with filmmaker Paul Schrader ahead of The Card Counter‘s release last year. It didn’t stop the filmmaker from using racial slurs in interviews but the studio tried. Whereas with Rowling, this doesn’t appear to be the case. If it’s a day ending in day, the author is amplifying transphobia on social media.

How do Rowling’s supporters take it? Well, they’re having none if it.

I did not read a single Harry Potter book nor do I care to do so. The same goes for watching the movies. Didn’t see them when they were playing theaters nor do I have an interest in watching them now. In watching Rowling’s online behavior over the past few years alone, supporting her transphobia is not something I care to do now or ever. I said it before and I said it again: Warner Bros. needs to stop giving J.K. Rowling money and reward her for her bigotry. She’s a credited writer on Fantastic Beasts and so anyone seeing this film is going to give the bigot more money and allow her to profit from hate. Please stop doing this. There are other books and films out there and you should be supporting people who don’t have a hateful bone in their body.

If you think this is bad, wait until you hear when the first press screenings were held: Trans Day of Visibility. Yes, the studio picked the single worst day to screen a movie by a transphobic bigot! How can any studio say that they stand with the transgender community and then throw us under the bus in this a way?!? I didn’t attend the local screening nor do I plan to do so. I do not support transphobic bigots. Period! As if the new Fantastic Beasts film didn’t have enough outside problems working against it, the recent actions by Ezra Miller are not doing the film any favors. Miller was recently arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment. A few days after the arrest, Miller was the subject of a temporary restraining order.
