Star Wars: The Bad Batch picks up near the end of the Clone Wars as the Republic begins to make its transition to the Empire era.
First and foremost, May the Fourth be with you! It’s another May 4th and this year, we get another animated Star Wars series. It’s been a few months since Luke Skywalker surprised us all during The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Will there be another cameo of this nature? It’s a Star Wars project so I’m just going to let you see what happens as you watch the series. This is the thing when it comes to the franchise–there are the people that consume as many articles as they can or the ones wanting to know as little as possible. I fall into the latter category. The good news here is that the trailer gives away as little as possible. Again, it’s Star Wars–they aren’t going to give away the entire series.
The series picks up with the Bad Batch in battle just before Order 66. I will say nothing more because of spoiler reasons. I have additional thoughts that I can write here…but spoilers. Lucasfilm knows Star Wars fans and when it comes to animation, Dave Filoni gives the fans what they want. What that is–oh, you’ll just wait and see! The same goes for following the execution of Order 66. I’m not going to give anything away here outside of my own excitement of the series.
While we’ve known Echo for some time, we were first introduced to Hunter, Crosshair, Echo, Wrecker, and Tech during the final season of The Clone Wars. Last year, it was announced that there would be a new series following the Bad Batch. Press were given the first two episodes last week but if today’s feature-length premiere is any indication, it’ll be an exciting few weeks. I like that they’re rolling out the series one episode at a time. This gives people something to talk about every week rather than binge during the course of a weekend. It’s how television–even streaming TV–should be watched. It allows us to take our time and wait to see what happens next week. The alternative is binge-watching over a day or weekend and then waiting a year. Star Wars: The Bad Batch will have us glued in for two months and then some!
Dee Bradley Baker voices our main characters. I love how he gives Clones their own personality. It’s the same with Matthew Wood and the battle droids. There is so much fun in watching this era of Star Wars series because of their voicework.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch starts off the series with exciting action and drama and leaves us wanting more.
