Critics Choice Super Awards: The Winners

The Critics Choice Super Awards are airing tonight on The CW and Solzy at the Movies will be posting up the winners throughout the ceremony.

Kevin Smith and Dani Fernandez are hosting the ceremony, which was taped while following Covid-19 protocols.

The Critics Choice Association will also present the Legacy Award to the Star Trek franchise, recognizing the cultural impact it has had across multiple decades while continuing to appeal to and grow its loyal fanbase with new stories and characters. Star Trek icon Patrick Stewart and Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green are accept the honor on behalf of the franchise, which is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. Star Trek: The Original Series premiered on September 8, 1966.

    • I don’t know if this bit with Caity Lotz and Lindsey Morgan was prepared but it is as bonkers as if it were on an episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
  • Best Actress in an Action Movie: Betty Gilpin, The Hunt (Universal)
    • Betty Gilpin makes note of the drama surrounding The Hunt’s theatrical release and subsequent delay. Also, please watch her in Future ’38!
  • Best Animated Movie: Soul (Disney+)
  • Best Voice Actor in an Animated Movie: Jamie Foxx, Soul (Disney+)
  • Best Voice Actress in an Animated Movie: Tina Fey, Soul (Disney+)
  • Best Superhero Movie: The Old Guard (Netflix)
    • Brandon Routh presents the award to Superman Returns. If the show had a physical audience, it would have had a ton of laughs. Courtney Ford corrects Brandon before saying that the winner would join a long history of Critics Choice Super Award winners. I’m not lying when I say how much I’ll miss these two on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

  • Best Actress in a Superhero Movie: Margot Robbie, Birds of Prey (Warner Bros)
  • Best Horror Movie: The Invisible Man (Universal)
  • Best Actor in a Horror Movie: Vince Vaughn, Freaky (Universal)
  • Best Actress in a Horror Movie: Elisabeth Moss, The Invisible Man (Universal)
  • Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie: Palm Springs (Hulu and NEON)
    • Andy Samberg accepts from Universal Studios. It looked like the War of the Worlds wreckage but he was running too fast.
  • Best Actor in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie: Andy Samberg, Palm Springs (Hulu and NEON)
    • I love how he accepted the award from the historic Bates Motel at Universal Studios
  • Best Actress in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie: Cristin Milioti, Palm Springs (Hulu and NEON)
  • Best Villain in a Movie: Jim Carrey, Sonic The Hedgehog (Paramount)
    • Carrey on winning Best villain: “That’s really saying something.”

    • A joke about forgetting The Karate Kid Part III preceded the award.
  • Best Actor in an Action Series: Daveed Diggs, Snowpiercer (TNT)

    • Eric Kripke points out that The Boys is the first show that ever won a Critics Choice Award that has an exploding whale and a 10-foot penis.
