Avengers: Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have finally resolved the mystery of who is the husband of Peggy Carter.

This question and more were recently answered in an episode of Heat Vision Breakdown on The Hollywood Reporter. Their answers:
“It was always our intention that he was the father of those two children. But again, there are time travel loopholes for that,” said McFeely.
Added Markus: “It does introduce the idea that there are two children who have somewhat super soldier DNA.”
I can accept this answer. Yes, it does make my head hurt from all of the loopholes from time travel. This concept basically means that the prime Marvel Cinematic Universe we see on screen is the one where Steve Rogers goes back in time. There’s the ramifications of the Snap that we’ll deal with at a later date. But for now, Steve and Peggy are together at last. I’m okay with this. For now.
The big thing is to pay attention to the World War 2 museum in Captain America: The Winter Solider. This is where we see clips from an interview from 1953 with Peggy Carter. While this scene may only contain clips, the full Peggy Carter interview is a part of the Blu-ray’s bonus content.
“He saved over a thousand men, including the man who would become my husband as it turned out,” Carter says. “Even after he died, Steve was still changing my life.”
What we know from The Winter Solider is that Peggy Carter would get married and have children. We see the photos when Steve is visiting her bedside. It ought to be noted that nowhere in these photos do we see her husband. Factor in what Markus and McFeely are telling us as opposed to what the Russo brothers have said.
“If you went back to that timeline, between the point where Steve went into the ice [in Captain America: The First Avenger] yet before Peggy met her husband, Peggy was available,” Anthony Russo said.
It’s a lot to make your head hurt. While the Russo brothers believe that the husband and children exist in a different timeline, I’m going with what the screenwriters are saying. The dance scene in Avengers: Endgame is still in the 1940s so I’m of the belief that it’s after Agent Carter rather than during World War 2. This is because the series was set during 1946-47 so going back to Captain America: The First Avenger would only open a new can of worms.
