Is there trouble brewing for Aquaman?

BEN AFFLECK as Batman, GAL GADOT as Wonder Woman, RAY FISHER as Cyborg, EZRA MILLER as The Flash and JASON MOMOA as Aquaman in Warner Bros. Pictures' action adventure JUSTICE LEAGUE, a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

There’s trouble brewing in the water for Aquaman as the DC Extended Universe can’t seem to catch a break.

Rumors have already been swirling around the upcoming Justice League but the water-based Aquaman is reportedly in trouble.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the water-based shoot has been “super complicated.”  Should we be surprised at this point?  Until I started hearing all the positive buzz, I had had low expectations a few weeks prior to the release of Wonder Woman.  While promoting a new film, director James Wan spoke to THR about the complications.

“It’s a very technically challenging shoot to be on,” said Wan as he was being shuttled to the film’s Australia set. “Working with water, and even the dry-for-wet sequences are very complex. … Our equivalent of two people sitting around chatting in the underwater world is super complicated. You have to think about CG with the hair, and how their clothing moves, how are they floating, what kind of rig we put them on and all that stuff.”

Wan wants to film Aquaman with the actors rather than CGI if I can.

“That just makes it very difficult and time-sucking and time-challenging to do all of this,” he continued. “So it’s not an easy shoot — but hopefully it will pay off in spades down the line.”

This follows the trouble that plagued Justice League with a number of reshoots.  Wonder Woman, at the moment, is the only solid DCEU film worth watching.  The others may have their moments but I don’t hold much faith going forward with the DC Universe on film.  You want some solid DC material?  Watch their television shows as the films don’t show much promise aside from the combo of Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot.

Aquaman is set to be released in December 21, 2018, against the Transformers-spinoff Bumblebee.
