Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One unveils trailer at Comic Con

Ready Player One

The teaser trailer was unveiled during the Comic Con panel for Ready Player One.

Directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay written by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline and based on Cline’s novel of the same name, Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg, and T. J. Miller.  This marks the third consecutive film for Spielberg and Rylance, having teamed up together for Bridge of Spies (2015) and The BFG (2016).

Alan Silvestri will take care of music scoring given that John Williams has opted to work on another upcoming Spielberg project, The Papers, instead.  The Papers is due out with a limited release in December 2017 before going wide in January 2018.  Ready Player One was originally scheduled for a December 2017 release but the studio moved it to March 2018 so that it doesn’t compete with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

No synopsis has been released from Warner Bros. Pictures.  The only text in the YouTube description is this:

From cinematic game changer Steven Spielberg comes Ernest Cline’s holy grail of pop culture. Ready Player One – In Theaters March 30, 2018.

The synopsis from the book’s page on Amazon:

In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.
