The Solzy Awards for Documentaries in 2019

Rather than wait a few more days until the month of December, The Solzy Awards for Documentaries are being honored this month for 2019. Earlier this month, I voted in my first-ever Critic’s Choice Documentary Awards. Some of these awards do match how I voted during the CCDA. However, there were some instances in which my preferred documentary was not a nominee earlier this month.  In other instances, some of my categories were not a…

The Solzy Awards for 2018

It’s the end of the year so that means that it’s the time of year to announce the Solzy Awards for 2018. This has been another great year for film.  As a result of film festivals more so than living in Chicago, I’ve seen more films than ever before.  This comes after setting a personal best in 2017 with 264 films.  At the end of November, I had seen 422 feature films–all first viewings! The Long-Overdue Solzy Awards for Film in 2015

I never got around to posting The Solzy Awards in 2015 as I was dealing with a lot of shit at the time, mostly coming out as transgender while living under the roof of my in-denial parents.  As 2017 comes to a close, I decided that I should finally get around to posting the awards.  Better late than never, am I right? I didn’t see Star Wars: The Force Awakens under the best of circumstances–major…
