Black Widow Arrives on Home Video

In what may be one of the quickest theater-to-home releases for a studio tentpole, Black Widow is now available on home video to buy or rent. Before I dive into my thoughts on the film, we need to talk about the end credits. Because the film displays the credits during an opening montage, there is no mid-credit scene. Instead, the scene comes at the very end of the credits. If you’re watching at home, a…

Movies, Box Office, Pandemic, and Mental Health

The ongoing pandemic continues to affect movies at the box office, release dates, and I also want to add a note here about mental health. Press Screeners and Screenings If there’s one thing that’s improved any during the past year, it’s the ability for press to do their jobs from home. To those studios who have press screening platforms on Apple TV or Roku, thank you. To those who don’t, it’s 2021 for Pete’s sake!…

Black Widow: Marvel Does It Again With Spy Thriller

It’s been a long time coming for Black Widow but the Marvel spy thriller is finally hitting theaters and Disney+ Premier Access. Before I dive into my thoughts on the film, we need to talk about the end credits. Because the film displays the credits during an opening montage, there is no mid-credit scene. Instead, the scene comes at the very end of the credits. If you’re watching at home, a lot of people worked…

Marvel Phase 4: See You At The Movies!

Marvel Studios released a short video this morning that did two things: welcoming fans back to theaters and previewing Marvel Phase 4. After a Stan Lee narration sets the tone, Marvel shows clips from Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Eternals. The clip from Eternals marked our first look at the film directed by recent Oscar winner Chloé Zhao. Following these clips, the studio went on to show dates and…

Blockbuster Tentpoles: The Streaming Conundrum

When it comes to blockbuster tentpoles, the studios are less likely to unload onto a streamer so as to preserve the theatrical experience. I can’t blame studios and filmmakers for wanting to preserve the theatrical experience.  Listen, I miss going to theaters myself but at the advice of medical experts, it’s just not going to be feasible without a vaccine.  I’ll be staying home until it’s truly safe to return.  Theaters are hurting and there’s…

Studio Tentpoles Are Getting Pulled From 2020

Studio tentpoles are getting pulled left and right from 2020 after Warner Brothers decided to delay the release of Tenet earlier this week. Tenet was the first of the studio tentpoles to get pulled.  On Thursday, Disney would follow with pulling Mulan and Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch from the schedule.  Black Widow remains in place but future Avatar and Star Wars films are on the move.  Meanwhile, Paramount also decided to pull some films…

Marvel Presents Phase Four Titles at Comic Con

Marvel Studios presented their Phase Four titles during San Diego Comic Con 2019 and this announcement didn’t come without some surprises. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was on hand in Hall H for the big event and had a lot of announcements on hand.  The biggest surprise is that Blade will be making his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  No date was announced for Blade’s MCU debut but Mahershala Ali has been cast…

Gotham City Sirens in the works for DC Comics with Margot Robbie

It was reported yesterday by The Hollywood Reporter that David Ayer would be re-teaming with Margot Robbie on Gotham City Sirens, a movie that would feature all the female villains of the DC Universe. Robbie’s Harley Quinn was the breakout star in Suicide Squad this summer. Robbie was likely the best thing from Suicide Squad, which was horribly trashed by the critics but went on to gross nearly $750 million worldwide. In addition to Quinn,…
