Following the world premiere of Darkest Hour on Friday night at the 44th Telluride Film Festival, Gary Oldman’s Oscar for Best Actor is more than likely his to lose. The next stop for the film, directed by Joe Wright (Atonement) from a screenplay by Anthony McCarten, will be the Canadian premiere on September 11th at the Toronto International Film Festival. Oldman leads a cast that includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James, Stephen Dillane, Ronald Pickup,…"Telluride: Darkest Hour puts Gary Oldman in Oscar race for Best Actor"
Footnotes (Sur Quel Pied Danser) is a French musical comedy with amazing choreography even if I couldn’t understand the language they were speaking. Directed by Paul Calori and Kostia Testut, the musical comedy stars Pauline Etienne, Olivier Chantreau, François Morel, Loïc Corbery, and Julie Victor. Footnotes is a musical comedy that was inspired by the films of Jacques Demy and Stanley Donen. At the film’s start, we meet Julie (Etienne). She’s losing her job at…"Footnotes: French Musical Has Awesome Choreography"
I just watched Blade Runner for the first time after checking out Blade Runner: The Final Cut from the local public library. Aside from some unfortunate skipping issues on the DVD, the film holds up well even on first viewing. Based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, the Ridley Scott-directed film was first released in 1982 and it’s yet another role that actor Harrison Ford will revisit when he reprises…"I just watched Blade Runner for The First Time"
I learned this morning that Shelley Berman, a longtime comedian, has died at the age of 92. Folowing a brief obit, I share my own thoughts of emailing with the late comedian. A statement on his fan page says that he died “at his home in Bell Canyon, CA, due to complications from Alzheimer’s.” A Chicago native, Berman performed back in the day with the Compass Players, a predecessor to The Second City. With the…"My Own Memories of comedian Shelley Berman"
Amy Jo Johnson took some time earlier this week to speak with Solzy at the Movies about her new film, The Space Between. The film will screen as a part of the Super Host Tour at The Picture Show in Bloomingdale, Ill., on September 7, 2017. Thank you for joining Solzy at the Movies. How are things treating you? Amy Jo Johnson: Pretty good. It’s been quite busy but yeah, it’s good. You’re touring your…"Amy Jo Johnson talks The Space Between, Power Rangers"
The Space Between, Amy Jo Johnson’s directorial feature debut, is a coming-of-age comedy about a man’s search for meaning on what it means to be a father. Written and directed by Amy Jo Johnson, the film stars Michael Cram, Sonya Salomaa, Julia Sarah Stone, David Paetkau, Maria Ricossa, Johnson, Kristian Bruun, Jayne Eastwood, and Michael Ironside. Produced by Jessica Adams and Johnson, The Space Between wouldn’t have been able to be made without the help…"The Space Between: A Man’s Search for Meaning"
Brisgby Bear was a cute heartfelt film that made its debut at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. The film, directed by Dave McCary, was on my radar from the moment that Sundance released their program lineup. It’s barely even made $500,000 at the box office and this just isn’t right. The star-studded cast alone should be enough to draw folks to the box office: Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Claire Danes, Mark Hamill, Jorge Lendeborg Jr.,…"Brigsby Bear was Criminally Unseen in 2017"
The lineup was announced this morning for the 44th Telluride Film Festival. Not surprisingly, there are a handful of films making their premiere and will likely be considered for the Oscars. The Telluride Film Festival will take place Friday, September 1 – Monday, September 4, 2017. “Telluride Film Festival has long been a platform for films from many different cultures and backgrounds that celebrate diversity,” said Telluride Film Festival executive director Julie Huntsinger. “We feel…"Lineup announced for 44th Telluride Film Festival"
Crown Heights tells the true story of Colin Warner and the road he underwent to get his freedom after being wrongfully convicted of murder. Written and directed by Matt Ruskin, the biopic stars Lakeith Stanfield, Nnamdi Asomugha, Natalie Paul, Amari Cheatom, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Nestor Carbonell, Zach Grenier, Josh Pais, Yul Vazquez, Ron Canada, with Bill Camp. It’s 1980 when Marvin Grant gets gunned down in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The only witness that the police are…"Crown Heights: Colin Warner’s Fight For Freedom"
The Layover is a hot mess from start to finish and so full of cliches but one can’t help from watching it. Hornsby and Krall have written for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia but this film doesn’t live up to even that sitcom’s standards. These women are among of the most poorly-written female characters that I’ve ever seen. You almost have to feel bad for Kate Upton after her being cast in The Other Woman. …"The Layover is A Hot Mess, Not Worth the Time"
