Critics Choice Awards: My Ballot

The 26th annual Critics Choice Awards were held on Sunday evening and Solzy at the Movies had the honor of voting for the award winners. In an effort to display complete transparency, the following is how I voted during tonight’s Critics Choice Awards. There were some instances where I voted one way while knowing deep in my gut that the winner would be someone else. I’m proud to be a member of this organization.  We’ll…

Critics Choice Awards: The 26th Annual Winners

The 26th annual Critics Choice Awards may have gone virtual this year but Netflix took home the most wins between film and TV. The Critics Choice Awards are bestowed annually to honor the finest in cinematic and television achievement. Historically, these awards are the most accurate predictor of Academy Award nominations. It’s almost a safe bet by now that Nomadland will take home Best Picture in April.  Chadwick Boseman and Daniel Kaluuya also seem like…

The Golden Globe Awards Don’t Need Our Attention

Last week’s Los Angeles Times expose into the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the Golden Globe Awards was pretty damning. The only reason why the Golden Globe Awards get so much attention is because of the fact that it’s on NBC.  Well, the open bar makes for a laid atmosphere, too.  Take both away and they are no different than other groups of journalists voting for awards.  Oh, wait.  Can we even call them journalists?…

Woman in Motion: Nichelle Nichols’s NASA Work

Woman in Motion: Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek and the Remaking of NASA is now available for audiences to watch from the comfort of their home. The documentary focuses on Nichelle Nichols’s work not so much on Star Trek but a career in science.  This doesn’t happen without one particular Star Trek convention in 1975.  Nichols listened to Jesco von Puttkamer speak but one thing was on her mind: where were the women and minorities.  A…
