Flashdance, the cultural sensation starring Jennifer Beals, is given life once again thanks to a new Blu-ray by way of the new Paramount Presents line.

The Blu-ray is newly remastered from a 4K transfer supervised by director Adrian Lyne.  It’s the second film directed by Lyme get the Paramount Presents treatment with the other film being Fatal Attraction.  There’s only one new feature and the set comes with an exclusive collectible packing.

Jennifer Beals stars as Alex.  She has one dream and that’s to study at the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance.  She works during the day as a welder and performs at night as an exotic dancer.  She’s not one to give up on her dreams, while also falling in love with Nick Hurley (Michael Nouri) in the process.  Yes, there is also an eighteen year age difference between the two.

If you aren’t all that familiar with the film, you’re probably familiar with the songs.  “Flashdance…What a Feeling” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.  “Maniac” was also an Oscar nominee.  The film also earned nominations for film editing and cinematography.  There’s also the iconic poster featuring Jennifer Beals in a sweatshirt with a large neck hole.  On the filmmaking front, the film would mark the first collaboration between Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson as producers.

When one looks at the film’s overall look, it’s easy to see how it would influence sequences in the style of music videos for years to come.  There are certainly a few films that would be influenced including Bruckheimer and Simpson’s own Top Gun.
