Some quick analysis about the PGA Awards and what it means for the 91st Oscars:

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is winning Best Animated Feature.  No matter how my father may feel about “cartoons,” this film is one of the best films of the year.

With regards to Best Documentary, the current statistic is that the PGA and The Academy only agree 45% of the time.  While Won’t You Be My Neighbor? takes the win tonight, it’s possible that another film could be crowned in February.

The winner of The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures has typically gone on to repeat at the Oscars.  The current statistic is 67% of winners have taken home the Oscar.  More often than not, the winner takes home the Oscar.  While Green Book may have won tonight, it’s not necessarily a guaranteed win in February.  Depending on who takes home Best Ensemble Cast during the SAG Awards, we’re looking at a repeat of the Spotlight/The Big Short/The Revenant awards season of early 2016.  Considering all the controversy surrounding the film, it may be possible that The Academy might have different thoughts.

The 2019 Producers Guild Awards are being held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
