Paddington 2 is A Must-Own Film

Paddington voiced by BEN WHISHAW in the family adventure "PADDINGTON 2," from Warner Bros. Pictures and STUDIOCANAL, in association with Anton Capital Entertainment S.C.A., a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

With the life lessons it offers, Paddington 2 is a film that should probably belong in every movie collection.

With Paddington’s Aunt Lucy marking her 100th birthday, he wants to get her the best present possible.  This comes in the form of a pop-up book discovered in Mr. Gruber’s shop.  In order to afford it, Paddington takes on a series of jobs to get the money…or at least tries to, anyway.  It’s only when Phoenix Buchanan (High Grant) discovers what the book contains in which Paddington and the Brown family must solve the crime.  Due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Paddington brings those life lessons to some newly found friends in jail.  My full review of the film can be found at Cultured Vultures.

There’s no universe in which you shouldn’t own Paddington 2 on Blu-ray, DVD, or Digital HD.  The film was originally set to be released by The Weinstein Company before everything went down in October.  Rather than deal with the negativity that came with the brand name, Paddington 2 found a new home in the US by way of Warner Brothers Pictures.

With the film finally available on home video, fans can go behind the scenes by way of the bonus content.  The large majority of these featurettes aren’t that large.  Paddington: The Bear Truth dives into some what went into the animation of bringing our favorite bear to life.  The Magical Mystery of Paddington’s Pop-Up Book goes into what went into bringing that set piece to life.

Here’s the part I don’t get.  The film was released during the same exact weekend as it’s predecessor was in 2015 yet didn’t perform anywhere close to what the first film did. While Paddington 2 finished with some $40.4 million domestic, the film took in $225.7 million worldwide.  Meanwhile, the first film accounted for $268 million worldwide yet brought in $76 million domestic.

Finally, as the lovable Paddington tells it, “Aunt Lucy said, ‘if we’re kind and polite the world will be right.'”
