The Doctor Who series is no stranger to transphobia as actor John Barrowman pulled a transphobic stunt at San Diego Comic Con in July and now news comes that Gareth Roberts has posted a tweet with an anti-trans slur.

Twitter.

Gareth Roberts tweeted:

“I [love] how trannies choose names like Munroe, Paris and Chelsea. It’s never Julie or Bev is it?

“It’s almost like a clueless gayboy’s idea of a glamorous lady. But of course it’s definitely not that.”

Suffice it to say, this won’t go over well on Twitter with transgender fans.  As far as Doctor Who fans, they seem to never care when Barrowman shows off his transphobia so it’s very likely they’ll let this one slip under the rug as well.  Roberts wrote a handful of epsiodes for the series from 2007 through 2014, with his last episode being “The Caretakers.” I’ve reached out to BBC America for comment but the offices are closed on Labor Day.

Roberts did write for The Librarians during their third season on TNT.  His episode, “And the Curse of Cindy,” aired on January 1, 2017 as the season’s seventh episode.  I’ve also reached out to the network for comment.

If the networks decide to comment, I’ll add them in.
