HBO to air Steven Spielberg documentary in October

HBO announced that Spielberg will air on October 7, 2017.

Directed and produced by Susan Lacy, the feature-length documentary will feature interviews with Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Christian Bale, Drew Barrymore, Cate Blanchett, Francis Ford Coppola, Daniel Craig, Daniel Day-Lewis, Brian de Palma, Laura Dern, Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard Dreyfuss, Ralph Fiennes, Harrison Ford, David Geffen, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Holly Hunter, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Ben Kingsley, Kathleen Kennedy, George Lucas, Liam Neeson, Martin Scorsese, Oprah Winfrey and Robert Zemeckis.

The legendary Spielberg has had a career spanning nearly 50 years.  Lacy charts his career evolution and draws from almost 30 hours of exclusive interviews with Spielberg.  The multi-hyphenate opens up on his childhood, his obsession with moviemaking, the early TV work, his rise to fame, the dramatic films, and his relationships over the years.

In addition to the aforementioned interview subjects, Lacy also spoke to members of the filmmaker’s family.  There are clips and behind-the-scenes footage of films such as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s Lost, Saving Private Ryan, Bridge of Spies, and more.

Themes highlighted will include separation, reconciliation, patriotism, humanity and wonder.

Lacy is the creator former executive producers of American Masters, a WNET series shown on PBS nationwide.

Following its October 7 debut on HBO, the documentary will be made available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals.
