Following Netflix’s decision to cancel Sense8, fans have started a petition to bring back the series created by the Wachowski siblings and J. Michael Straczynski.

Netflix’s VP of Original Content, Cindy Holland said the following in a statement.

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end.  It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kickass and outright unforgettable.  Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world.  We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

The series stars Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Angel Silvestre and Brian J. Smith.

The series is notable for their LGBTQ characters, including Clayton–one of the few trans actors in a trans role.  The series won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series.

Season 2 debuted in May so the question of it’s sudden cancellation is astonishing to say the least.  Why make the decision after a month of release?  Did not enough viewers watch the second season of the series?

Both #RenewSense8 and #BringBackSense8 have been trending on Twitter.  In addition, a petition was started at Change.org to bring back the series.  As of this evening, 157,073 supporters have signed the petition with a new goal being 2,000 signatures.

The two seasons of Sense8 and the holiday special are available for streaming on Netflix.
