Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is Awesome and So Much Fun

Marvel Studios

The Guardians of the Galaxy have returned in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a sequel that provides just as much action and fun as the first movie.

The soundtrack for the sequel is provided by Awesome Mixtape #2.  This is the last gift that Meredith Quill (Laura Haddock) gave to her son, Peter (Chris Pratt), prior to dying in the first movie. For Peter Quill, he has never known who his father is.  Lo and behold, we’ll certainly be learning the answer to this question very soon.  It doesn’t come at a good time for the Guardians because Marvel’s favorite dysfunctional family is fighting to stay together.

Enemies turn into allies in the fight to defeat Ego (Kurt Russsell).  Talk about having a name that’s most fitting for the character!  With Peter learning this new information about his father, it will have certainly have some lasting ramifications on their relationship.  For one, Peter learns why Yondu (Michael Rooker) never took him to Ego.  Knowing what we know now, Yondu was probably wise to keep Peter with the Ravagers!

One thing for sure is that Ego is not the nicest guy.  Again, his name is very fitting.  One could say that he has a large ego!  The fact is that he is a Celestial being.  His brain is in the caverns of his home planet.  As such, it is going to be up to the Guardians.  They aren’t alone this time because Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Yondu join the fight.

While most Marvel films have at least one or two bonus scenes, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has five scenes!  One of which introduces us to Adam Warlock.  We’re getting closer to locating all the Infinity Stones!  Another scene calls back an earlier scene with Stan Lee’s Watcher Informant speaking to the Watchers.  They’re most notably associated with the Fantastic Four.  I guess this means that the rights reverted back to Marvel?

Some things to take note of here:  the film certainly takes a different approach from the comics.  Rather than Ego, Peter’s father is J’son.  Similarly, the way that Peter initially went into outer space is quite different, too.  In the comics, his mother gets murdered and he eventually joins NASA after being an orphan.

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could certainly improve in some areas, the film still provides some fun.
